Kickmag interview w/Day 26

Kickmag interviews Day26 while they were in Detroit for the International PRSA conference:
Since the disappearance of Dru Hill and Blackstreet a few years ago the male R&B group looked liked it was going into extinction. Sean “Diddy” Combs who already projected the rough-hewn soul of Jodeci and the staunch R &B of 112 into the world decided to do it again with a new set of guys on reality TV. MTV’s Making The Band 4 set out to find the next hot group in a competition that became famous for the walk across the Brooklyn Bridge to get Diddy cheesecake. After all the tests and trials five men earned their place in the new band in a reversal of the way The Monkees were created for television in the mid ‘60s. Robert Curry, Willie Taylor, Qwanell Mosley, Brian Andrews and Michael McCluney were lone singers fighting for their big break and realized it as Day26. Their ability to croon from the books of Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder has been minimally sidestepped for a more commercial sound.

Some people have described them as a chocolate-dipped NSYNC but their style is suggestive of an updated urban Motown if Berry Gordy were still at the helm. Those euro-synthesizers in their first single “Got Me Going” reek of pop appeal but their true vocal abilities and stage presence is all soul. On October 26 they gave a show for the Public Relations Student Society of America’s opening night reception at Detroit’s GM Renaissance Center. Before the show they harmonized, told jokes and explained why being a member of Day26 is a dream come true.

What was the hardest part of doing reality TV?

Willie: Just the world being open to see everything that goes on some things you want to be private. People treat us like ‘Will I know you’ they grab on us and pull us and we be like ‘Look here.’

What has the transition been like going from Making The Band 4 to becoming a group?

Mike: To sum a lot of it up just crazy. Doing one thing totally opposite of this it was in this lane not exactly how we are now. A lot of ups and downs good and bad.

Willie: It’s kind of weird cause at first we were in competition with one another we had to learn and realize in the process of recording that we were not in competition that we’re a group now. It’s like second nature to us now we all know our roles like we are playing championship basketball. So it’s like a big difference from the competition to the brotherhood. (more…)

Day26 - Remaking The Band? Pt 2

Well here we go what everyone has been waiting for part II of the BET Interview:

Day26 - Remaking The Band? Pt 2:The Truth Behind Danity Kane and Making The Band

By Andreas Hale, BET.com Staff

In part 1, Day26 discussed their first major tour, getting used to the cameras and their surprise after finding out Danity Kane was broken up by Diddy. Part 2 finds the group elaborating on how Aubrey kept D Woods from appearing on the season finale, how jealousy ruined the group and the truth that the cameras hide.

Q, you kind of alluded to Dawn having a solo deal. Do you think that had something to do with the girls and their issues?

Q: I think Aubrey is a person that manipulates people. I think she’s jealous and she needs help. My issue came in because Dawn is my girl. She comes to me and she cries and expresses that she, Aundrea and Shannon are all for Danity Kane. But this whole Ebony & Ivory (D Woods and Aubrey)…they have other things that they want to do and they don’t put Danity Kane first. The difference between Day26 and Danity Kane is that when I made the group, I put Day26 first and Q second. Everything that has to do with the group, I’m going to handle first. Aubrey did “Hairspray” and the girls supported her. Aubrey wasn’t showing up to tour dates! That’s messed up. (more…)

Day26 - Remaking The Band? Pt 1: The Truth Behind Danity Kane and Making The Band

Day26 recently took the time out of their busy schedules to talk to BET about staying together forever, their newfound celebrity, the blogs and have some interesting opinions on Aubrey O’Day, D Woods and the remaining members of Danity Kane.
By Andreas Hale, BET.com Staff

Brian Andrews, Michael McCluney, Qwanell “Q” Mosley, Robert Curry and Willie Taylor were just some regular guys who wanted to sing back in 2007. By August 26th, 2007 they had endured a rugged period to beat out 20 other hopefuls to make Diddy’s band. On March 25th, the group released their self-titled debut album as Day26 and debuted at #1 on the charts. Later in 2008, the group toured with fellow MTB family members Danity Kane and Donnie Klang.

Three seasons of their sharing their lives in front of millions on MTV’s “Making The Band” has definitely thrust them into the limelight. But their limelight is coming at a bittersweet time as the group finds themselves bearing witness to their sisters of Danity Kane being disbanded.

How did it feel handling your first major tour?

Willie: The tour was great. We learned a lot from Danity Kane. It was crazy. It was like Diddy said with giving the crowd that gift of energy. We were just happy to experience that.

Was there any part of the tour where you guys were exhausted and ready for a break?

Brian: No! Never, ever, ever!
Willie: We’re ready to hit the road again! (more…)

THE MORNING AFTER: BRIAN GETS REAL ABOUT MAKING THE BAND TOUR IN BALTIMORE - Interview

Brian talks about the B-more show on tour coming straight from the official bad boy day 26 site!

June 11, 2008

Get the scoop on Brian’s thoughts on the love from the fans on the road, and what to expect the next time the guys hit B-More.

B-more showed us lots of love, that show was crazy. It was overwhelming for me, we took the crowd over and gave em something to remember. I been reading the blogs and people saying it was more than they expected, letting us know we for real, and that’s huge to me. Gotta thank Baltimore for coming out, I can’t wait to come back, cuz it’ll be bigger and better next time around. We gon keep bringing good music to you, don’t be afraid to holla at me and let me know how you feel, I’m a real friendly guy who loves his fans. I’m eternally thankful you supportin Day26. B-more I’m out.

Day 26: Making History From Henceforth

MTVAsia posted an interview they did with Day 26. I guess the CD is just premiering there now. Anways they don’t have the parts broken all down for which guy says what but I thought it would be interesting to hear them talk about the shown the girls and the group.

As far as auspicious numbers go, 26 definitely works for them. Day 26 is who we’re talking about. By now, you must surely have heard of this Famous Five, whose self-titled debut album has been heating up the charts quicker than you can say “Got Me Going”.

On August 26, 2007, Day 26 was born from P. Diddy’s Making The Band 4. Brian Andrews, Mike McCluney, Qwanell Mosley (aka “Q”), Robert Curry, Willie Taylor are now set to blow the R& B industry away, judging from the way their hot new moniker seems to be on everybody’s lips these days. (more…)

Urban Bridgez interviews Day 26

Day 26 online had a link up to an interview the guys did with UrbanBridgez:

UBG Speaks to Day 26!

The guys of Day 26 speak to UBG about their debut album, making the band, the up-coming tour, rumors and much more!

Bryan (UBG): Watching you guys on TRL recently, your performances seem to be getting better and better. Is it getting more comfortable for you guys to do live performances at this point?

Brian (Day 26): Definitely from jump we’ve been comfortable, but with each performance we do feel that we have gotten better.

Mike (Day 26): We were all comfortable performing, but we just had to get to know each other onstage.

Bryan (UBG): You guys are headed out on your first tour soon with label-mates Danity Kane and Cheri Dennis, what can fans expect to see from you guys when they attend the show?
Q (Day 26): We’re about to start like a boot camp. We are still growing so we want to be the best we can be and give the best show that we can give.

Bryan (UBG): What was the hardest part about recording the album?

Brian (Day 26): Working with Diddy! Diddy is a true perfectionist, and he doesn’t just accept anything. We would record stuff over and over until he thought that it was just right. (more…)

‘Making the Band’ with Brian
By Janine Oliveira

Dig in for Guilty Pleasures every Thursday. You know you want to …

Brian Andrews fought through the competition on Making the Band 4 to be part of the lucky five to make it into Sean Combs’ all-boy super-group, recently titled Day26.

Andrews chatted with me about the journey into the band on the MTV show, meeting Danity Kane, and the other fellas who share his dream of superstardom.

TVGuide.ca: How did it feel to walk in and meet such a high-profile celebrity like Sean Combs [a.k.a. P. Diddy]?
Brian Andrews: Of course the initial feeling is being nervous and not really knowing what to expect from this man. I’ve always had dreams of doing this and I feel like meeting him was just one step closer to my dream.

TVG: Diddy has been known to really put the contestants on Making the Band through the ringer. What was the craziest thing he had you guys do?
BA: He came and woke us up at 2:30 in the morning and basically wanted us to walk and sing to collect money for the homeless [in New York]. We went from Manhattan to Brooklyn to Queens to the Bronx to Long Island and then back to Manhattan. And then we had to get him some cheesecake.

TVG: I know the girls are disappointed to hear you’re a taken man. How hard is it to leave the wife and kids at home to pursue you dream?
BA: It’s really hard, but at the same time my wife is a wonderful woman. She really understands my career and is behind me 100 per cent. She has been there since forever, and I feel really blessed to have someone on my side like that. She really is an incredible woman.

TVG: As Diddy called the names of all the people who made the band, what was going through you head?
BA: He called Robert’s name first and I was thinking ‘my chances of being in this band are very slim now’ since he always kinda put Robert and I against each other. Then he called Will and I was thinking ‘OK, he still hasn’t called my name.’ Then he called Q’s name and I was like ‘OK what’s going on?’ So I was starting praying ‘Lord, if this isn’t for me, please give me the strength to move on from this.’ Then they called my name fourth and it still hasn’t sunk in yet.

TVG: Then they called Donnie as a solo artist on Bad Boy …
BA: I was very, very excited for Donnie. If you look back on the finale, I was the first one to grab him and jump up and down. Donnie deserves everything that Donnie has coming for him. He’s very humble and very talented.

TVG: I heard that you guys had a close bond from the very beginning, and that you somehow knew that these were the five guys who would make the cut.
BA: It was somewhat like that because during the whole competition we were in the Top 20, we got pretty close. It’s really weird that the people in the band just happened to be the people who were the closest.

TVG: And it’s great that you guys connect so well and are on the same level.
BA: Yes ma’am.

TVG: During the season première, you seemed to be a little shy or intimidated by Danity Kane.
BA: In Episode 1, we were just wondering why they were there. That was the look on our faces. It wasn’t anything like that and it’s basically for TV. We were just all in the dark, like ‘What’s going on here?’

TVG: When you found out you were going to be sharing a house with the ladies, what were your thoughts?
BA: I was wondering how my wife was going to take it. That’s the first thing that popped in my head.

TVG: Who is the pretty boy in the group?
BA: Q or Will. Ladies love Will. He’s all muscular and everything. Q is the sweet and innocent young guy. The girls love him ‘cause he comes off all innocent.

TVG: Who is the most dramatic?
BA: Robert. He’s the type of person who wears his heart on his sleeve, not that it’s a bad thing. He looks like a tough guy, but he’s very sensitive and opens his heart to you.

TVG: Who is the hot head?
BA: That would have to be me, ‘cause of my temper. I’ve learned to keep it in check.

TVG: Who is the shyest one?
BA: I would have to be Will again. I wanna say he’s shy, but he’s very quiet and just sits back.

TVG: Who is the most misunderstood?
BA: Robert again. He tends to come off a certain way to people and they really don’t understand him.

TVG: Anything we should expect for this upcoming season of Making the Band 4, Season 2?
BA: You’re gonna see some hook-ups, you’re gonna see some break-ups, you’re gonna see some hard work, and you’re gonna see and hear some great music that I feel is gonna change today’s music. I feel we are bringing music back to the ‘90s where you could really feel the emotion coming through.

TVG: Any last shout-outs?
BA: Our single ‘Got Me Going’ is available on iTunes. The name of the group is Day26 and our album will be in stores March 11. Video is coming soon.

That’s Hip Hop.com interview with DAY 26

Interviewer .:V:.

August 26… the day there lives changed Forever. “We wanted something that really meant a lot to us, so we went with Day26″. That marked the end of the second season of Making The Band 4 and a new beginning to carry on with their future success. Diddy composed the quintet, who’s members Brian Andrews, Mike McCluney, Qwanell Mosley, Robert Curry, and Willie Taylor became friends and brothers while filming Making the Band, a reality TV show that broadcasted on MTV last summer. Baller Status interview: Day26: Beyond What You See On TV

Ballerstatus.com got a couple of quotes from Brian during an interview with Day 26

After much success with Danity Kane, Diddy sets his eyes on another group from his reality show series, “Making The Band 4.” Fans and MTV viewers got to know them on TV, but how did they take to each other when the cameras stopped rolling? How has their music evolved since being formed? How did they get their name?

Already in a second season, members of “Making The Band 4″ — Brian Andrews, Mike McCluney, Qwanell Mosley, Robert Curry, and Willie Taylor — sit down with BallerStatus.com to talk about their the new album, moving into a house with Danity Kane, the pressures of working with Diddy, and all the other questions everybody wants to know.

BallerStatus.com: How did the name Day26 come about?

Will: The finale for our show last season for “Making The Band 4″ was on August 26 and that day really changed our lives, so when we were going through a list of names. We wanted something that really meant a lot to us, so we went with Day26.

BallerStatus.com: Since being in the band, how have your lives changed?

Brian: Our lives have changed tremendously, from people noticing us to us to not [being] able to go to the malls or even grocery stores. I would say it’s not a bad thing. We all feel very blessed and we wouldn’t change anything about it. (more…)
