Despite being selected from a pool of thousands of hopefuls, having a hit reality series on MTV and a new single bubbling, the men of Day26 still seem happy just to be in the room. Robert, Qwanell, Brian, Will and Mike– the members of Diddy’s new band– sat down with us for a quick minute to discuss the pressures of instant fame and why they wanted to be signed to Bad Boy despite the Bad Boy new artist “curse.”
“I always wanted to be a Bad Boy artist. I never knew how I was going to reach that goal. So this is a dream come true,” says Robert who was first signed to Wyclef Jean before making the band. “We’re really not worried about the Bad Boy curse. It’s all about the paperwork. As long as [we] have that straight then you really don’t have nothing to worry about.”
The fellas are inclined to believe that it’s a new day and that day is Day26 — a named chosen to commemorate the day in August took five dudes and made them stars, instantly.
Unlike previous winners of “Making The Band”– Day26 is in the midst of their artist development alongside fellow Bad Boy artists Donny and Danity Kane.
“I ain’t gonna lie, maybe there is a little bit of pressure working so closely with [Danity Kane],” admits Mike.
“But you gotta understand, this is what we do,” says Q. “All we’re concern about is making music, not how many people are watching us on TV or what people are saying about us or what they are thinking.”
“All we care about is staying humble and making music,” chimes in Brian– a sentiment expressed by all members of the band.
The lead single from their self-titled set is “Got Me Going.” It’s an uptempo track produced by Mario Winans and Diddy,” says Will. “People probably thought we would come out the gate with a slow joint to prove that we can sing, but I am pretty impressed with what we came up with.”
Day26, which features production from Mario Winans, Sean “Diddy” Combs, The Runners, Jim Bean, Adonis, and Bryan-Michael Cox, hits shelves March 25th.
